DISABLED FRIENDLY LIBRARY

The CM Inaugurated the Rs 180-crore world class Anna Centenary Library — the second largest in the country — at Kotturpuram  in Chennai

The library, which has come up on 3.75 lakh sqft, will house 12 lakh books. Besides being certified as a 'green building', the fully automated digital library would also be disabled-friendly and cater to the needs of various segments.

In a speech filled with nostalgia and emotional undertones, the chief minister recalled Annadurai's radio speech in 1948 on the title 'library', in which he had stressed that each household should have a library. The government had realised the dream of Anna by setting up the state-of-the-art library, he said and appealed to the public to consider the campus as their own. The government was considering reducing the bus fare for those who come to the library from a long distance.

Karunanidhi, who was given the first membership card of the library, appreciated school education minister Thangam Thennarasu for his efforts in moulding the world class facility into shape. He also unveiled a hand carved bronze statue of Annadurai at the entrance of the library.
