CONGRATS AMAR SEVA SANGAM

Amar Seva Sangam’s Sivasaraswathi Vidyalaya High School  at Ayikudi near Tenkasi is an integrated school  . Both the normal and differently abled children study together and the maiden batch of 10th standard (SSLC) appeared for the Tamil Nadu Board Public Examination in March this year. All the 23 students who took the examination have come out successfully scoring good marks.


Udavikkaram convey its Greetings and best wishes to all the 23 children  and praise the tireless noble  services of the Founder President Mr.S. Ramakrishnan  and the Secretary CA.S.sankararaman.

ACCESSIBLE HONG KONG

Right from arrival at the hong Kong international air port by cathay pacific from chennai i find every where disabled friendly attitude in this country. A chinese lady waited at the doors of the filight with my wheel chair to take me out.More ladies working here.inside air port an acceessible train journey to go to VISA counter. 14 days visa only given-- take photo of disabled visitor to their country--a ride in taxi from air port to Kowloon--- thousands of high rise buildings on either side-- tunnels and fly overs and subways every where-- all sides sea view-- my daughter stays in Laguna city- on the 24 th floor- quite accessible residential buildings for wheel chair users-- took a wheel chair for just a nominal rent of 5 HK dollars for 15 days- every place wheel chair available on rent- priorty every where for wheel chair users-cable car drive to BIG BUDDHA STATUE- wheel chair accessible cable car- wheel chair accessible toilets every where.All city buses have wheel chair symbols showing their accessivbility to them-

STAR FERRY RIDE- wheel chair acceessible- famous NANLIAN GARDENS- disabled friendly- special acceesible device to get down the stairs in wheel chairs in railway stations in addition to accessible lifts and ramps
a feast for eyes and ears in DISNEY LAND- every where acessible to wheel chairs- IT IS A SMALL WORLD- a journey in an accessible boat ride across so manycountries-- a fantastic experience-- The GOLDEN MICKys-THE FESTIVAL OF LION KING-- an excellant show-- specil ly reserved places in the first row for the wheel chairs-- and a special entry above all!!
TEH PEAK- the highest place in hong kong-- disabled friendly access to the top to enjoy the sceneries of hong kong beautiful sights in the night-AVENUE OF STARS- SYMPHONY OF LIGHTS- a special show of lights- - daily at 8 pM - an enjoyable event
ACCESSIBLE MARKET PLACES l like stanly market malls like MEGA BOX etc
THESE are some of the important places i enoyed in my visit to hongkong.
people are nice and give respect and preferences to the disabled and the elderly people
taxi drivers very cordial and helpful

I have also visted singapore and malaysia but Hong Kong is more accessible to wheel chair people compared to them.
WHAT ABOUT INDIA?
WE ARE TWO DECADES BEHIND
only now we are discussing for a LAw to enforce our needs as rights based and of not charity based.

DISABLED ACTIVISTS MEET CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER ON 01/04/2011

Prof. Sahadevan (State Secretary of Visually Handicapped wing of Tamilnadu Assn for the Welfare of Differently Abled) , P.Simhachandran (Gen. Secy. of Tamilnadu Federations of Handicapped Assns) , Mr. Jayakumar (President of Hearing Impaired Assns Federations) presenting a meorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer, Shri.PraveenKumar, IAS.

                        A consultation meeting of the leaders of different kinds of disabled persons' organisations (DPOs) was held on 31-03-2011 in Chennai to discuss about the grievances experienced by the disabled while casting their votes in the polling booths. The meeting was held in the presence of  Smt. Jayalakshmi, Asst. Director of the State Commissionerate of the Differently Abled, Govt. of Tamilnadu. The consultation meeting was convened by Mr.Namburajan of the Tamilnadu Assn For The Rights of All Types of Differently Abled And Caregivers - (TARATDAC) .Shri. D. Lakshmanan ,the State President of Assn presided over  the meeting.

           The following persons representing various Associations of the Differently Abled in the state participated in the consultations

(i) Sri. K. Gopinath, State President,Tamilnadu Assn for the Welfare of Differently Abled


(ii) Sri. P. Simhachandran, State General Secretary, Federation of Tamil
Nadu Handicapped Associations of Differently Abled


(iii) Sri. E.K. Jamal Ali, Vice President, Tamilnadu State Hearing Impaired
Federation.


(iv) Prof. M. Sagadevan, (State Secretary of Visually Handicapped wing of Tamil Assn for the Welfare of Differently Abled)


(v) Sri. Prakasam, State President, Tamilnadu Leprosy Patients & Differently Abled Association.


(vi) Sri. R. Gopinath, President, Short Person’s Association


(vii) Shri.Ganesh Raja, Shri.Mohan, Tamilnadu Visually Impaired Association



It was decided to meet the CEO and present the following memorandum



1.     In Voter’s ID Card, the disability of the person must also be mentioned.  Then only facilities and priorities may be given by the concerned authorities to enable the disabled to cast their votes without any difficulty.

2.     The Electoral Office, must take the responsibility of transporting the voters who are severely disabled from their homes to the polling booths and back to their homes after casting their votes, to avoid the vested interest(political parties) to  get into favour of them.

3.     Ramps must be provided which have to be inclined in the correct fashion that allows a wheelchair to pass smoothly. Wheelchairs must be made available at the Polling Booths.

4.     The Polling stations must have western closets in the toilets and be provided with drinking water and such other basic facilities.

5.    The Differently Abled must be allowed to cast their votes first, priority   

        wise without having to stand in queue.

   

6.     The escorts of the Differently Abled must be allowed to escort them up to the polling booth without restraining them                                  

7.     For the Visually Impaired voters, Braille in Tamil language must be provided. For those who do not know Braille the talking’ Jaws’ must be provided in Tamil language.

8.     For the Speech and Hearing Impaired voters, in every polling booth a ‘sign language’ interpreter must be provided to avoid communication lapses.

9.     For the Leprosy Cured voters, Election Commission may kindly find a way to help the cured leprosy voters with no fingers to cast their votes.

10.   For the Short Persons(Dwarfs),  some   kind   of   height   like

        wooden steps  must be provided to cast their votes. 

                On 1st April 2011 Shri. Namburajan of of TARATDAC lead a delegation of disabled activists and met the CEO Shri Praveenkumar, IAS and presented the demands who assured them to look into the grievances and will take suitable measures for redressing the grievances.

              மாண்புமிகு முன்னாள்  முதல்வர் புரட்சி தலைவி செல்வி .ஜெ.ஜெயலலிதா அவர்களின் பிறந்த நாளை முன்னிட்டு  அகில இந்திய பார்வையற்றோர் முன்னேற்ற சங்க அலுவலகத்தில் மாநில தலைவர் புலவர் A.K.அருணாச்சலம் அவர்களின் தலைமையில் 24.02.2011 அன்று மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கு உபகரணங்கள் வழங்கும் விழா நடைபெற்றது . மாநில உயர் மட்ட குழு தலைவர் CA.T.A.P.வரதகுட்டி முன்னிலை வகித்தார் .முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் மாண்புமிகு திரு.நைனார் நாகேந்திரன் அவர்கள் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக கலந்து கொண்டு உதவிகள் வழங்கினார். கழக பெருமக்கள் மற்றும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் , ஏராளமானோர் விழாவில் கலந்து கொண்டனர் .

200  க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாற்று திறனாளிகள் கருத்தரங்கில் பங்கேற்று புதிய சட்டம் பற்றி விவாதித்து தங்களுடைய கருத்துகளை பதிவு செய்தனர் .

மாற்றுதிறனாளிகளின் ஆணையக அதிகாரி  திரு .ஸ்ரீதர்,திரு.மனோகர், தமிழ்நாடு  மாற்று திறனாளர்  நல்வாழ்வு சங்க உயர் மட்ட குழு தலைவர்  CA.T.A.P.வரதகுட்டி ,உயர் மட்ட குழு துணை தலைவர் நந்தகுமார் ,மாநில தலைவர் ஆவின்கோபிநாத் ,மாநிலபார்வையற்றோர் அமைப்பு செயலாளர்சகாதேவன் ,வாரிய உறுப்பினர்கள்  திரு.கருணாநிதி,சிம்மச்சந்திரன் ,முன்னாள் வாரிய உறுப்பினர்  நம்புராஜன் 

,அமர் சேவா சங்க செயலாளர் சங்கரராமன்,ஐக்யா (மன வளர்ச்சி பாதிக்கபட்டோற்கான அமைப்பு   )நிறுவனர் திருமதி .பார்வதி விஸ்வநாதன்  மற்றும் பல்வேறு அமைப்புகளின் (NGO's) நிர்வாகிகள் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

கூட்ட துவக்கத்தில் ஓரிரு அமைப்பை சேர்ந்த நிர்வாகிகள் கூட்டத்தை நடத்த கூடாது என ரகளை செய்தனர், ஆனால் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து கொண்ட 200  க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாற்றுதிறனாளிகள் வேண்டி கொண்டதால் உயர் மட்ட குழு தலைவர் CA.T.A.P.வரதகுட்டி புது சட்டத்தை பற்றிய விவாதத்தை ஆரம்பித்து வைத்தார்,தொடர்ந்து கூட்டம் இரண்டு நாள் நடைபெற்றது .
